At first glance, the central idea is immediate and effective

The pencil work is diligent but too evenly distributed. Fine hatching describes the left side, the top plane, the central band, the shoes, and the ground shadow, while the frontal surfaces remain almost blank.
The eyes receive the strongest tonal emphasis, so the face dominates, but the body loses material identity. It never fully reads as paper, a stack, or a mascot.
That is its success, and nearly all of its available complexity.
